'Cari (okay), Kizie Basu ?', a line that will be marked as the last line of the late super talented actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, touches the heart and leaves you with heart break. A beautiful adaptation of "The fault in our stars", Mukesh Chhabra's Dil bechara has some Indian Bollywood spices sprinkled over the top. The film oscillates between happiness and sorrow and depicts the pain and agony the characters go through to learn the true meaning of love in their lives.
Emmanuel Rajkumar Junior, played by Sushant might be one of the stupidest names I've ever heard, but the character's traits are wholesome, funny and overall one of the sweetest characters ever, may it be pretending to smoke a cigarette or enacting Rajnikanth's moves. The colorful character of Manny is complemented
by the gray and mundane tones of Kizie's (played by Sanjana Sanghi.) life. This contrast is shown by the director when he reveals the fact that both of the protagonists have/had cancer and they blend in beautifully by accepting each other's affirmations. The upbeat characteristics of Manny is portrayed beautifully by Sushant and his quintessential smile. Don't get me wrong, Sanjana's smile is equally beautifully, but her acting skills were a bit under par. One of my favourite characters is of Pandey ji, played by Sahil Vaid. The beautiful brotherhood between Manny and Pandey and their silly jokes and comedy is the perfect complement for the emotional and the heart breaking film.
The character dynamics of the characters shift completely by the end. Manny's strength uplifts Kizie, making her the care taker, which is the complete opposite till the midpoint of the film.
Apart from the cast's brilliance, the cinematography is done well, portraying the right emotions. The fast pace editing during the montages felt a bit jarring and tiring but the use of silence in this film, is done beautifully.
This film is all about the contrast in the lives of the characters and their journey to find peace and normalcy. The depressing verdicts like, life has no meaning, it has no sense of wholeness is heart breaking in this film. But, the power to accept what life throws at us and being optimistic is the sole motto. Overall, Dil Bechara is a cute yet heart breaking story of two people, who fall in love and stand by each other against all odds. Sushant Singh Rajput's beautiful smile and undeniable talent will stay in the hearts of movie goers in India and all around the world forever. Cari (okay), Public?
P.S : The self funeral sequence made me very emotional, just knowing the fact that, the person is really gone. I am not nor was the biggest fan of Sushant, but honestly, he was one of the best upcoming actors in Indian cinema. That is why, this review won't have any ratings.
